The Biostatistical Consulting Service
of the Department of Community Health & Epidemiology
is available to researchers, residents and graduate
students within the Faculties of Medicine, Dentistry
and Health Professions. Requests from the wider community
may be considered from time to time.
Services Offered
A full range of biostatistical services is offered,
from assistance with the initial planning of an investigation
to final publication of the results. Whether you need
a simple answer to a simple question, or a full range
of statistical services, the Biostatistical Consulting
Services may be able to help.
Study Planning: Advice can be given on study
design, questionnaire design, sample size determination,
data management issues and randomization. We can provide
assistance with developing the methodological and statistical
sections of grant proposals.
Data Entry: We provide advice on the use
of commonly used data entry programs and spreadsheets.
A specialized package for entering food intakes for
nutritional analysis is also available.
Statistical Software: Our team members have
experience with SAS, SPSS, MiniTab, Excel, StatXact,
LogXact, Stata and PASS. We can help you to select
a statistical software program to suit your particular
needs.
Data Analysis: We can guide you towards the
appropriate method of analysis. Biostatistical Consulting
Services staff may also be available to conduct a full
statistical analysis of your data Prior to the analysis
we will check the data for inconsistencies and discuss
with you the various analysis options available to
meet the objectives of the study. After the analysis
we will assist you in interpreting the results.
Report Writing and Publication: Assistance
may be available in preparing a report or paper for
publication. Results of the statistical analysis can
be provided in the form of publication-quality graphics
for figures and/or tables.
Referrals
Referrals may be provided, where appropriate, to other
faculty members within CH&E or elsewhere on campus
who have methodological expertise in a desired area
such as community health, epidemiology, demography,
program evaluation, occupational health, environmental
health and health economics.
Terms
There is no charge for the initial consultation. Rates
for subsequent services are based on the pricing policy
of the Department of Community Health & Epidemiology.
An estimate of cost for your specific needs will be
provided on request.
